In fact, more than $75,000 worth of jewelry, including diamonds, emeralds and Rolex watches, was stolen. Three of the crimes happened in Carrietowne North just off McCord Road, while the other happened at a home near Brint and King Roads. The crime has taken a lot of residents in the area by surprise. Carolyn Zimmerman couldn't believe someone busted through her 70-year-old neighbor's front door Tuesday morning and stole most of her jewelry when she and the victim left to run errands. "What's scary is how they know when we're going and when you come back," said Zimmerman. The same thing happened to another 76-year-old woman's after someone busted through her front door and stole every piece of her jewelry while she was gone. Sylvania Township detectives say the thefts are happening in the day when women leave their homes. "All of these burglaries are going straight to master suites," said Sylvania Township Sergeant Lee McKinney. "They're taking the jewelry they can get a hold of -- and they're getting out as quickly as possible." With gold prices rising, McKinney advises everyone to be on guard and take pictures of every piece of jewelry they own. "When we go to jewelry stores, some items are somewhat common and it'll stand out to a detective trying to locate them," said McKinney. As a result, Zimmerman says she will definitely set her alarm even though sometimes in the past she admits did not activate it when she left home.
