OTTAWA, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Canadians looking for some quick cash should not mail jewelry to companies offering to buy it, the Ottawa Better Business Bureau says.

The business group told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. it has received 55 complaints about two apparently related companies that operate the Web sites webuydiamondsandgold.ca and sellyourdiamondsandgold.ca. The companies advertise on television but use UPS stores as accommodation addresses.

The people who responded to the ads have similar stories, Diane Iadeluca of the Better Business Bureau said.

"In some cases they get a little money back, in some cases they don't get their money back, and they can never seem to get their jewelry back," Iadeluca said.

Barbara Mughal of Ottawa told the CBC Tuesday she responded to an ad in October. She said after she sent in a gold-and-diamond wristwatch and some gold nuggets she heard nothing back, and most of the time when she called got an answering machine.

"First time in my life I do something like this, but they always catch a fish, right?" she said.
