Austin Jewelry designer opens new Boutique

If you want to give your winter wares new life, do so through new accessories. Austin jewelry and accessories designer Leigh Navarro opened a 250-square-foot boutique called Shop Leighelena (1215 Corona Drive. 531-9673, www.leighelena.com) late year near Nomad Bar in East Austin. The store offers Navarro's selections for women including bracelets, cuffs, enamel pendants and enamel rings, and men's cuffs and cuff links, along with 20 to 30 other jewelry lines. Also, it stocks household products, tabletop items, men's gifts, body care goods, scarves, fine art and photography, candles, some clothing and Navarro's belts in leather and other exotic skins such as python and various snakes. Jewelry prices ranges from $10 to $150. Navarro's accessories line is sold at various Austin retailers, including Anna Gray Gift & Jewelry Boutique, Eliza Page, Solid Gold Boutique and Whole Foods Market.

Austin-centric with flavor of
New York, LA

What happens when you mix a dose of New York with Los Angeles and some Austin? You get Blackbird Clothes and Curios (112 E. North Loop Blvd. 904-9114, www.blackbirdaustin.com), a men's and women's store tucked away among the eclectic shops and vintage stores in Central Austin. In addition to clothing selections, the store sells sunglasses, hats, jewelry, bags, gift items and décor pieces such as baskets and candles — all ranging from $15 to about $100. Overall, the store stocks limited runs of garments from primarily Los Angeles vendors as well as selections for women sizes 10 to 18. Blackbird was opened last year by longtime friends Juliana Azar, a fashion designer and Austin native, and Stacey Breakall, a founding member of the Kitty Kitty Bang Bang burlesque group.
